I’m Loving

30 Jul

Looks like it’s a sleepless night for this gal. So, naturally, I’m taking my energy to the online shopping world. I mean, what else would I be doing? Searching through one of my favorite sites for cheap bauble finds and came across these stackable rings from Bauble Bar! You like?

Bauble Bar Lilac Stack Ring – $54 (baublebar.com)

Wear just one, or the other, or both. So many choices! Just so pretty, aren’t they? They remind me of playing Pretty Pretty Princess…but more stylish…and more expensive…

What to Pair With…

30 Jul

…my new earrings!

So, being the college student that I am, I sometimes find myself working in really random situations. Today I found myself assisting a broker with an apartment showing in DC. I know nothing about realty and didn’t even know what I was getting myself into. However, the upside was 1) Gettin’ paid $$$ and 2) I got to show off my new baubles! The Anthropologie earrings I bought yesterday paired great with a top I bought last week while in a serious online retail therapy session. Take a look!

Looking realtor-profesh, right?

Guess who went shopping! This girl! As soon as I woke up this morning, it was clear I was missing something. And that something would most certainly be found at Anthropologie. I walked away with two great new pieces about which I’m beyond excited!

Anthropologie “Congeries” Necklace – $48 (Anthropologie.com)

And the next…

Anthropologie “Merewif” Earrings – $38 (Anthropologie.com)

Let the outfit matching begin! Jeez, this stuff should be an Olympic sport…

Team USA

28 Jul

Okay, how AMAZING were the opening ceremonies last night?! I’ll admit, my friends and I definitely weren’t feeling it at the beginning – like, why does this look like the scottish date on the Bachelorette? Where is Chris Bukowski? – but then, WOAH, here comes the Industrial Revolution and BAM Olympic Rings of Fire!!! Loved it.

Now, the athletes are great – and sexy – and all, but the real question for this year’s olympics is: How are you gonna show your team spirit?

Casual Daytime Party

BDG Stripe Crewneck Tee – $18 (urbanoutfitters.com)

Stripes are great. They always add a preppy, classic feel to an outfit. I love the thicker line around the chest in this comfy, cheap tee from Urban Outfitters.

Stella & Dot “Olivia Bibb Necklace” – $118 (stelladot.com)

This necklace is a bit of a splurge, but you’d be surprised by how well red goes with almost anything.

Stella & Dot “Bardot Spiral Bangle” – $59 (stelladot.com)

Channel your inner need to Go For The Gold with a noticeable touch of gold. This bangle from Stella & Dot pops but is classic enough that it won’t detract from your other pieces.

Zoe B. “Pearl Fascination” Sterling Silver White Pearl Stud Earrings – $59 (endless.com)

Since your necklace and bracelet are going to make huge cameos in this casual outfit, just top everything off with some classic, small pearls (be they fake or real).

Evening Viewing Party or Bar

Gap “Long Goddess Dress” – $74.95 (Gap.com)

My friends would probably roll their eyes at this post because they know that I live in maxi dresses during the summer. As a maxi dress expert, I can tell you that Gap carries some of the comfiest. And, although this particular one is listed as a tad expensive, if you go into your local Gap next week, it’ll probably be 50% off. Trust me, it’s happened before.

Anthropologie “Peanut Necklace” – $58 (anthropologie.com)

Sometimes I feel like there’s nothing more chic than an all-black outfit with gold adornment. To me, it’s very classic. This piece from Anthropologie is a little quirky but I like the shape and details of the peanut. It’ll also go with anything in the future and make people think, “That girl has style and a quirky sense of humor. I like her. We should be best friends.” Trust me, that’s exactly how it’ll go…

Stephen & Co. Enamel Post Earrings – $6 (nordstrom.com) SALE

I’m sure you were thinking, “this chick is crazy! Ain’t no color up in this outfit.” Well, homies. Here it is. And I’ve given you another special treat. These blue posts are on SALE. 6 whole bucks! Get ‘em while they’re hot!

Tory Burch Perforated Logo Clutch – $195 (nordstrom.com)

I know I wrote that I’m on a budget, but it’s never too early to start making my Hanukkah wishlist, right?

Now go forth and swoon over the USA Swim team…in style.

What To Pair With…

27 Jul

Anthropologie “Torrent Sweetheart Dress” – $248 Anthropologie.com

One of my vices is buying really, painfully boring clothes. I tend to buy a lot of solid color tops and wear a lot of jeans or black pants. But what do I do with these seemingly boring, drab-colored pieces? I make them BEAUTIFUL! Well, no, I’m not Cinderella’s fairy godmother or that bald guy who makes over Anne Hathaway in “Princess Diaries.” I’m a jewelry aficionado. Duh…

The Wonderful thing about buying plain, solid colored tops and dresses is that you can – without risk – pair ANY color statement necklace or big earrings or bangles or rings…the list goes on.

A-Thread “Mint Draped Bead Necklace” – $37 (a-thread.com)

Try this necklace from A-Thread. I’m obsessed with mint this summer and this has it in essentially every shade…a dream come true! What I love about statement necklaces is that they make me feel less naked in tank tops or strapless dresses. This heavy piece will not only add some serious color to the Anthro dress but also create a break between your nakey shoulders.

Nordstrom Round Stud Earrings – $24 (nordstrom)

I have an unwritten rule that big and big don’t go well together. It’s probably because I’m from Kentucky and I’m used to the big hair, big dress, big hat. But, in any case, whenever I go for the big statement necklace, I opt for post earrings no matter what. I like these because I love romantic-looking, simple posts. And – you’ll come to find – I ONLY wear gold.

Who Says You Can’t Look Stylish Babysitting?

27 Jul

Image

Today I went to my regular babysitting job and thought, I MUST figure out a way to still look cute, but appropriate and playful for the kids! I threw on some denim capris and a standard Madewell black tank and then went to work. I didn’t want to do anything with my hair because, well, I was just too lazy. So I makeup-d up and started trying on necklaces. My statement necklaces were all…too…statement-y, so I went for earrings. Nothing felt right, so I turned to my scarf collection. I chose this fun, light (since it’s 90 degrees here, in DC) scarf I got for like, $4 from Gap last summer and decided it needed just a pop of gold! I fell back on my favorite Kate Spade gold bow earrings and voila! A stylish outfit to go do something not-so-stylish!

1 Step to Complete Every Ensemble

Step 1. Accessorize!

My name is Sammy and I’m passionate about all things sparkly, shiny and simply pretty. I’ve started this blog to share my love and knack for accessorizing with all of you.

This Is Me!

Where it all began.

Like many private school graduates, I wore a drab uniform all through high school. Our one “out of uniform” day a week was not enough for me to express my passion for fashion. So, naturally, I turned to accessories. Shoes, headbands, jewelry, tote bags – you name it, I was trying to be the Blair Waldorf of Louisville, Kentucky.

Then came college.

Once I graduated from my lovely prep school and moved into my dorm, I realized I had a dilemma on my hands. I had too many shoes, jewelry and handbags to fit in my dorm and couldn’t wrap my head around pairing them with all of the clothes I’d bought fresh for the fall. I was so used to being able to wear any colors and prints (leopard being my downfall) with my school kilt, that I was never concerned with making things match or making sure they “went together.”

So Now…

After freshman year, I downsized on the shoes quite a bit, found this amazing little thing called Pinterest – you might’ve heard of it… – and started to find some organization to my outfits while still maintaining the creativity I’ve always loved to express with my accessories.

The best thing accessories have given me is a way to make one outfit completely different with just the addition of something on your neck, ears or wrist. I’m a curvaceous girl on a budget, so I might not always have the “it” look when it comes to my clothing. But I’ve got something better – a creative mind and eye to improve the look.

So enjoy my blog, ask me questions, and hopefully discover cool ways to improve your own looks.
