Sunday Statements

27 Aug

“It’s our God forsaken right to be loved.” – Jason Mraz

I’ve officially gone to my first Jason Mraz concert! I finally got to see my favorite artist – the one and only who got me through my angstiest, moodiest and most critical times in middle and high school – on Friday night. Hence the dramatically prophetic song lyric this week. I’m a happy, happy girl.

Well I have just had the longest and least lazy Sunday ever. Between hittin’ the gym, meetings for various sorority events, reuniting with friends after summer, and worrying – sort of, not really…which is worrisome – about classes starting tomorrow, I really just need to lay in my bed, watch True Blood, and not think about anything except Alexander Skarsgard’s sexy body. BUT before I do that, I must throw some Sunday Statements your way!

I Have A Problem

12 Aug

So I’m sitting in the DC airport waiting for my flight back to Kentucky for a brief visit and I see one of those Facebook offers for a statement necklace that’s on like a 75% discount.

And I bought it.

Mind you, the airport is probably the WORST place to be entering your debit card info on your phone. And I did. Twice. The first time I entered my info, the system told me I had an existing account but that I needed to update my card info. Naturally, instead of taking this second step as a sign that I should cease and desist, I risked the security of my identity to enter it a second time!

Oy vey. It might be intervention time. But it’s just such a great necklace! Look! Tell me I don’t have a problem.

What To Pair With…

27 Jul

Anthropologie “Torrent Sweetheart Dress” – $248 Anthropologie.com

One of my vices is buying really, painfully boring clothes. I tend to buy a lot of solid color tops and wear a lot of jeans or black pants. But what do I do with these seemingly boring, drab-colored pieces? I make them BEAUTIFUL! Well, no, I’m not Cinderella’s fairy godmother or that bald guy who makes over Anne Hathaway in “Princess Diaries.” I’m a jewelry aficionado. Duh…

The Wonderful thing about buying plain, solid colored tops and dresses is that you can – without risk – pair ANY color statement necklace or big earrings or bangles or rings…the list goes on.

A-Thread “Mint Draped Bead Necklace” – $37 (a-thread.com)

Try this necklace from A-Thread. I’m obsessed with mint this summer and this has it in essentially every shade…a dream come true! What I love about statement necklaces is that they make me feel less naked in tank tops or strapless dresses. This heavy piece will not only add some serious color to the Anthro dress but also create a break between your nakey shoulders.

Nordstrom Round Stud Earrings – $24 (nordstrom)

I have an unwritten rule that big and big don’t go well together. It’s probably because I’m from Kentucky and I’m used to the big hair, big dress, big hat. But, in any case, whenever I go for the big statement necklace, I opt for post earrings no matter what. I like these because I love romantic-looking, simple posts. And – you’ll come to find – I ONLY wear gold.
